Among them, VR equipment declined the most, with shipments of about 6.67 million units, mainly because sales of new high-end devices were not as expected, and subsequent brands will shift their sales focus back to low-cost products. The AR performance is flat, with shipments of about 780000 units. Apple's new products can temporarily support part of the demand, but due to the high unit price of the products, it has not been able to effectively promote the growth of the AR market.

Ji Bang Consulting said that there are two main reasons for the decline in VR equipment shipments this year. One is that brands are overly optimistic about the sales of high-end products. Hardware and software specification upgrades do have more features, but consumers are not willing to pay high prices. Instead, they will turn to low-cost entry-level products that are functional enough to meet basic needs. This consumption model will also force brand manufacturers to shift their sales focus back to low-cost models this year. Second, there is no new low-cost model to attract consumers, and the Meta Quest 2 is still the main product in the VR market this year because the Meta Quest 3 is expected to be postponed to 2024.

According to Ji Bang Consulting, Apple is expected to launch new products in 2023 as scheduled, but as the new products focus on developers, associated specifications, functions and prices rise simultaneously, and production will be more difficult, so this year should still be mainly pre-sale, shipments are estimated to be less than 100000 units, the overall production may only reach 300000 units, the contribution to the AR market is limited, need to wait for more consumer-side AR products to launch, the AR device market can be expanded.

Ji Bang Consulting believes that the development process of the VR and AR equipment market is limited from 2023 to 2025, and it is expected that the VR and AR market will not grow significantly until 2025, and the annual growth rate of shipments is nearly 40%.
