CTOnews.com, May 22 (Xinhua)-- Samsung has launched a digital car key feature in Brazil, which is launched in partnership with BMW and compatible with some models.

Using digital car keys in Samsung wallets, BMW owners in Brazil can use smartphones to unlock their vehicles. Samsung explained that digital car keys are stored in embedded security components (eSE) to protect users' most sensitive data and encryption keys. This is also part of the Knox platform that protects Samsung Wallet.

This feature works through NFC and UWB (Ultra Wideband), which provides additional benefits, such as the ability to unlock the car for a short distance without taking out the phone and tapping the vehicle's NFC reader.

Another advantage of using digital car keys through UWB is greater accuracy, which prevents potential digital attacks through radio signal interception and interference attempts.

Samsung is introducing digital car keys on some Galaxy phones running Android 13, including the Galaxy S20 series (CTOnews.com notes officially do not include S20 FE), the Galaxy S21 series (including the S21 FE) and the Galaxy S22 and S23 phones.

In addition, the feature is available for Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, as well as some folding screen phones, from Galaxy Z Flip 5G / Z Fold 2 to Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4.

As for the supported BMW models, Samsung's digital car keys are suitable for BMW 320i, 330e, 420i, 530e, X1, X3, X4, X5, X6, M3, X6M, i4, iX3 and iX.
