Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com May 22 news, according to the Electronic Times, a semiconductor equipment industry said that TSMC 2 nm GAA process performance was amazing, so customers urgently revised the blueprint. It is said that TSMC's 3nm production capacity in 2023 is still dominated by N3 (N3B), with an overall yield of close to 75 per cent.
As TSMC's 3nm is not much different from 4nm in PPA performance, and the price of 3nm has risen to US $20,000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB 140000), although only Apple can enjoy a 20% discount, many customers have revised their production plans and adjusted their production and orders, including lengthening the 4/5nm generation cycle, slowing down the adoption of N3E and N3P, and waiting for the 2nm GAA process generation to be recharged.
He believes that although the layout of TSMC's production capacity may be disrupted, customers have a higher degree of adhesion, and they are quite confident in the 2nm GAA generation. Almost all customers who have adopted 4/3nm have 2nm projection plans.
According to previous news, Apple has almost covered nearly 90% of TSMC's first-generation 3-nanometer process capacity this year for future iPhone, Mac and iPad chips.
Apple's upcoming iPhone 15 Pro series is expected to feature an A17 bionic processor, Apple's first iPhone chip based on TSMC's first-generation 3-nanometer process, also known as N3B. It is said that compared with the 4nm process used to make A16 bionic chips for iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, 3nm technology can improve energy efficiency by 35 per cent and performance by 15 per cent.
Apple's M3 chips for Mac and iPad are also expected to use 3nm technology. The first M3 devices are expected to include the new 13-inch MacBook Air and 24-inch iMac, which could be unveiled later this year. The new iPad Pro models launched next year are also likely to use M3 chips, while Apple analyst Guo Mingyi believes that the 14-and 16-inch MacBook Pro models launched in 2024 will use M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.
Apple is currently testing a new chip with 12 cores of CPU, 18 cores of GPU and 36GB memory, which could be the basic M3 Pro chip for the next generation of 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models to be launched next year, according to an App Store developer log obtained by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
TSMC is also developing a more advanced 3nm process called N3E, according to DigiTimes. Apple devices will eventually switch to the N3E process, which is expected to start commercial production in the second half of 2023, but actual shipments will not increase until 2024.
