Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, May 21 (Xinhua) astronomers at the University of Arizona have launched an online project to invite the public to participate in the search for undiscovered asteroids, some of which may hit Earth.
These astronomers are in charge of NASA's near-Earth object search project, the Catalina Sky Survey Project. Through the Zooniverse website, they offer everyone the opportunity to view telescopes of the night sky and mark moving light sources that may be asteroids. These asteroids are debris left over from the early formation of the solar system, of different sizes, and some orbits may intersect the Earth. If their orbits can be detected and changed in time, catastrophic collisions can be avoided.
The project aims to use human judgment and vision to screen out targets that computer programs may miss or misjudge, so as to provide more accurate data for professional astronomers.
