NTT said in a statement that the new company will take over all the hardware and part of the software business of the IOWN platform, while NTT will still be responsible for telecom application services. NTT Electronics, which is currently responsible for the R & D and manufacture of optoelectronic components on the IOWN platform, will merge with NTT Innovative Devices in August.

CTOnews.com has previously reported that the IOWN technology platform has the advantages of increasing the data volume of the optical communication network by 125 times, reducing the end-to-end delay to 0.5%, and reducing power consumption to 1 / 100 of the current. However, Sichuan Tian Xiongyan, vice president of NTT Technology, believes that the greatest advantage of the IOWN platform is that it can avoid the random long delay problem of the current network. This also means that online surgeries and cloud games that are difficult to perform in real time due to delays can be carried out smoothly on the IOWN platform. NTT expects operating income of IOWN platform hardware to reach 200 billion yen by 2029.

NTT, Intel and Sony have formed an alliance, the IOWN Global Technology Forum, to promote 6G technology development. Members of the alliance include Ericsson, Nvidia, Microsoft and NEC. NTT said it would inject 30 billion yen of capital into NTT Innovative Devices and provide hundreds of engineers to accelerate technology development on the IOWN platform.
