For now, the company seems to be making good on its promise. This year Microsoft has released the first major feature update for Windows 11, the Moment 2 update. The update, which includes artificial intelligence and Phone Link support for iOS, is now available to all users. Meanwhile, Microsoft is preparing to release Moment 3 updates in the coming weeks.

Ideally, Microsoft should provide users with three major feature updates this year. The first has been released, the second is in progress and is ready to be released at any time. According to Twitter user @ PhantomofEarth, the third and final version of this year (Moment 4) is also under way and will be released later this year, and Windows Central's Zac Bowden reiterated the same view. According to Bowden, this basically confirms that Windows 11 version 23H2 will be released later this year as a cumulative update, rather than a major version upgrade, as 23H2 is released on the same platform as the version 22H2. The next major version of the Windows platform will still be launched in the second half of 2024.

The Moment 4 update is expected to upgrade the operating system version from 22H2 to 23H2. CTOnews.com notes that Microsoft has abandoned the original idea of continuing to serve a version of Windows and instead released a "new" operating system every three years. Windows "12" (or otherwise) is expected to be launched in 2024, and while we don't know what Windows "12" will bring, a Microsoft executive has confirmed that the company will focus on AI-based features in the next version of its operating system.
