CTOnews.com, May 18, according to Reuters, Broadcom has made an antitrust commitment to the European Commission in order to allay concerns that the VMware acquisition may affect market competition.

Sources pointed out that Broadcom proposed remedial measures on the related impact of the acquisition of VMware. According to an European Commission document, Broadcom made an antitrust commitment on May 16, 2023, and the review period for Broadcom's acquisition of VMware has been extended to July 17, 2023, but did not provide further details of Broadcom's commitment.

Earlier, the European Commission rarely revealed in April that it had issued an opposition statement to Broadcom, warning that Broadcom's acquisition of VMware could have adverse effects on corporate customers, such as higher prices, declining service quality and stifling innovation.

The European Commission is concerned that Broadcom's acquisition of VMware may hinder market competition for hardware parts products from other manufacturers that can work with VMware virtualization software. CTOnews.com has previously reported that Broadcom faces EU antitrust warnings over its $61 billion (currently about 427 billion yuan) acquisition of VMware.
