CTOnews.com, May 18 (Xinhua)-- Reuters quoted two sources as saying that Meta will face record EU privacy fines for failing to comply with the warning of the EU Supreme Court because Facebook transmitted EU user data to US servers.

The figure of the fine is not yet known, but it is certainly higher than Amazon's previous fine of 746 million euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 5.662 billion yuan).

Meta declined to comment, while the Irish data Protection Commission (DPC) and the European Commission did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

EU regulators, led by Helen Dixon, the Irish data protection commissioner, have finalised a ban on Meta's transmission of European user data because of concerns that US intelligence agencies are using the information.

It is reported that the European Supreme Court ruled in 2020 that the data transmission agreement between the European Union and the United States was invalid because of surveillance problems. Meta warned last year that an order banning its mechanism for transferring data from Europe to the US could force it to suspend its Facebook service in Europe.
