CTOnews.com, May 18, according to foreign technology media 9to5Mac, the Indian government approved a financial incentive on Wednesday that Apple is about to produce iPad in the Indian market.

The aim of the fiscal incentive is to promote the local manufacture and export of IT products such as laptops, tablets, PCs and servers. Although the policy is open to all Indian manufacturers, Apple is clearly the biggest beneficiary.

CTOnews.com previously reported that the Indian Mobile phone and Electronics Association (ICEA), an industry body, released data in April that India's smartphone exports exceeded $11.2 billion in the fiscal year ending in March, while Apple's exports are estimated to be between $50 and $5.5 billion, accounting for nearly half of the total.

After the huge success of the iPhone, the Indian government turned its attention to incentives for the production of tablets and laptops, and Apple was once again the main target.

The Indian government approved a plan of 73.5 billion rupees (CTOnews.com) in 2021, offering "cash return" benefits similar to smartphones. Apple reportedly rejected the proposal, saying that previous policy incentives were not enough to cover the cost of producing iPad in India, and Apple asked to nearly triple the incentive money to 200 billion rupees.

Apple was largely successful, with the Indian government agreeing to increase the incentive program to 170 billion rupees (CTOnews.com) to attract laptops, tablets and other hardware makers to India, according to Bloomberg.
