Beats says this is thanks to the updated design, which uses three times the size of the microphone and new ventilation technology. Another major improvement is the battery life of Beats Studio Buds +. Beats says users can get up to 9 hours of battery life from Beats Studio Buds + and up to 36 hours of battery life with USB-C charging boxes. However, these data are obtained when the active noise reduction and penetration mode is turned off. If these functions are turned on, the battery life in actual use will be significantly reduced. By contrast, the Beats Studio Buds provides 8 hours of battery life when turning off active noise reduction and penetration mode.

However, Beats does not address the biggest limitations of the first generation of products. Instead of using Apple's H2 audio chip, the headset uses a chip designed by Beats itself. While this is more compatible with Android devices, it also means that Apple users will not be able to enjoy some of the key features provided by the AirPods or even other Beats products that use Apple's proprietary chips. For example, Beats Studio Buds + does not support automatic detection of wear status, which means that it does not automatically play or pause playback when the headset is removed or put on. The new headphones also do not support automatic switching of devices, and paired devices cannot be synchronized through iCloud and need to be manually connected on each new device. At the same time, Android users can enjoy more features, including quick Google pairing, audio switching and a Beats app tailored for Android.

Foreign media 9to5Mac said that although the active noise reduction and penetration mode of Beats Studio Buds + has been greatly improved, there is still a significant gap compared with the second-generation AirPods Pro, but the new headphones are also nearly $100 cheaper.
