Using all the existing high-precision astrometric data, the team redrew the spiral arm structure of the Milky way using celestial maser, young stars and open star clusters as "lighthouses" marking the position of the spiral arm.

The results show that the Milky way is a multi-arm galaxy with two symmetrical spiral arms extending outward, namely, the Immortal arm and the moment ulnar arm. The outer part bifurcates and forms several irregular and long spiral arms, including centaur arm, centaur arm, bottom arm and local arm. The Milky way does not look special.

The result of the study of the Milky way in traditional cognition subverts the traditional understanding of the spiral arm structure of the Milky way and creates a new height in the study of the structure of the Milky way.
