Samsung Electronics Solutions (DS) recently fired engineer An and asked government agencies to investigate it. It is reported that Mr. A sent the data containing the core technology to an external personal mailbox, and some of the data was sent twice to another external mailbox account of his own and stored, which was eventually discovered.

Samsung Electronics said that "attempts and acts of secretly disclosing technology assets constitute a crime." Last year, Samsung Electronics also had a series of information leaks. Engineer B, who was going to change jobs to an overseas company, displayed important data containing the country's core technology on the screen while working from home, took hundreds of photos and stored them, and was caught. Samsung Electronics asked for an investigation into Mr. B in April last year, and Mr. B was later transferred to trial in detention after being charged with a crime. In the first instance, Mr. B was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, suspended for two years, and a fine of 1000 million won (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 52000 yuan). The prosecution refused to accept this, filed an appeal, and said that "the punishment must be increased" and that the second trial will continue.

Engineer C, who was also about to change jobs to a domestic cooperation company in South Korea, was also caught displaying important technical data on the screen and taking and storing thousands of photos. At the time, Samsung Electronics fired Mr. C and asked government agencies to investigate him. Mr. C was also sentenced to prison in court last month, and prosecutors also appealed against it.

Earlier this year, seven people, including a former researcher at Samsung Electronics subsidiary SEMES, were sentenced to prison for violating the Prevention and Protection of Industrial Technology leakage Act. They were charged with illegally using SEMES's trade secret semiconductor wet cleaning equipment manufacturing technology to make design drawings for 24 equipment, and then using these drawings to produce 14 devices worth 71 billion won (currently about 369 million yuan) and export them to competitors.
