CTOnews.com, May 16 Microsoft's Bing Chat today brought some major improvements for mobile users, launching contextual chat for mobile Edge, Bing widgets for iOS and Android, and the ability to have continuous Bing Chat conversations between mobile and desktop.

Starting today, users can now open Bing Chat conversations on PC and continue on mobile. Microsoft cited an example where users could have Bing Chat create a recipe for them on PC, and then ask for alternatives on mobile apps when they arrive at the grocery store if an ingredient is missing. The feature will roll out gradually starting today and will be available to all iOS and Android users over the next week.

The second major mobile change is contextual chat in Edge iOS and Android. This is very similar to the functionality that exists in the Bing sidebar in Edge desktop, which allows mobile browsers to read the context of the website the user is browsing. Users can click on the Bing Chat icon at the bottom of Edge to ask questions about the site they are viewing and even have it summarize the article or document they are reading for them. Edge Mobile will also support selected text manipulation, where users can highlight a paragraph of text that Bing will interpret or summarize. Microsoft says the two new Edge features will soon be available to mobile users.

Microsoft also brings iOS and Android users a mobile widget that can be pinned to the home screen for quick access to Bing Chat. The widget includes a Bing icon that takes you directly to Bing Chat, and a microphone icon that allows you to ask questions with your voice. The feature will be available on iOS and Android this week, and Microsoft will also improve language support for its voice input.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Bing support was recently added to both iOS and Android SwiftKey keyboards, and Microsoft has now updated it to enable it to compose complete messages with tone, formatting, and length options. This is the same functionality used to compose messages in the Edge sidebar, and on mobile devices users will be able to configure messages and copy them immediately into messaging apps and emails. SwiftKey now also has an AI-powered translator built into it, as well as witty and funny tone options. Finally, Skype has added Bing Chat to its Group chats. If you're using Skype, just @Bing in the conversation and the chatbot will respond to queries and conversations.
