CTOnews.com May 16, AMD launched the Ryzen 7000 series of mobile processors in January this year, and one of the highlights is the artificial intelligence acceleration hardware module equipped with XDNA.

AMD believes that the application of XDNA in the mobile Ryzen processor ecosystem is significant, but is in no hurry to extend it to desktop processors.

David McAfee, vice president of AMD, recently told PC World media that AMD has introduced a special reasoning processing unit (IPU) module into CPU to deal with load tasks related to artificial intelligence.

McAfee indicates that the workload related to AI will be transferred to GPU, while IPU will be introduced, just like CPU in current video coding, to assist GPU to complete the AI task.

AMD will consider extending the AI accelerator to Ryzen processors in the future, but the current focus is on mobile solutions. CTOnews.com learned from the report that McAfee said that the desktop PC has enough overall performance that the practical benefits of training Ryzen Threadripper to use artificial intelligence to accelerate operations will not be great.
