Beijing, May 16 (Xinhua) the US Virgin Islands has issued a subpoena to Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) to help investigate the relationship between JPMorgan Chase and the late American tycoon Jeffrey Epstein, according to court documents filed on Monday.

Musk's subpoena is part of a civil action brought by the United States Virgin Islands against JPMorgan. The United States Virgin Islands accused JPMorgan Chase of deliberately benefiting from Epstein's trafficking of young women to the United States Virgin Islands for sex trade. Several other billionaires, including Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, also received subpoenas from the US Virgin Islands.

The civil suit in the United States Virgin Islands alleges that JPMorgan Chase obtained high-value business opportunities from Epstein but turned a blind eye to his activities. JPMorgan Chase said it was not aware of the crimes Mr. Epstein was accused of and could not be held accountable.

The US Virgin Islands said in court documents that they wanted information from Mr Musk because they believed Mr Musk was a high net worth person and that Epstein may have introduced or tried to introduce Mr Musk to JPMorgan as a client.

Epstein the subpoena asked Musk to provide documents to reflect communications or meetings between Musk and JPMorgan Chase or Musk and Epstein related to the two men's accounts at JPMorgan Chase. It also asked Musk to provide any documents "related to Epstein's involvement in human trafficking" or the fees Musk paid to Epstein or JPMorgan Chase related to his JPMorgan account.

However, there is something wrong with the service of this subpoena. The United States Virgin Islands on Monday asked the judge in charge of the case to authorize other subpoenas of April 28 to be served on Musk. They said they had made sincere efforts to get Mr Musk's address, including hiring a private investigator, but had not been able to find it. They also tried to send Musk's subpoena to Tesla's office and asked for permission to send the subpoena directly to Tesla.

It is not clear how much business Mr Musk has with JPMorgan. Mr Musk does not have a good relationship with JPMorgan. In 2021, JPMorgan sued Tesla, accusing him of violating the warrants agreement signed with him and claiming $162 million. The expansion of Musk's business empire depends more on other banks.

According to previous media reports, Epstein, who has a residence in the U.S. Virgin Islands, opened an account with JPMorgan for many years until JPMorgan closed his account in 2013. But over the next few years, JPMorgan bankers were still meeting with him. In 2019, Epstein died in prison while awaiting trial on federal sex trading charges.
