They took Tesla to court, accusing Tesla of deliberately interfering with the car's performance and reducing battery life through software updates.

CTOnews.com noted that this is not the first time Tesla has faced such a lawsuit. As early as 2019, several Tesla owners said that after updating the software versions 2019.16.1 and 2019.16.2, their car's mileage was reduced by 12 to 30 miles, and the charging speed was greatly affected. The affected vehicles are mainly Model S vehicles with 85 kWh battery packs that were discontinued in 2016. At that time, the owner of Tesla sued Tesla and won the lawsuit. Tesla later restored most of the battery capacity and compensated each owner for $625.

This time, some Model S and Model X cars were affected, and when Tesla provided the software update, he did not inform the owner that it might lead to a drop in battery life. Some car owners who contacted Tesla's service department said Tesla told them they needed to replace the battery. As the old models of these cars are out of warranty, Tesla will charge up to $15000 if the battery needs to be replaced.

The biggest problem in this incident seems to be the communication problem of Tesla. Tesla never explains what happened to the car owner. Last time Tesla said that the reduction in battery capacity was due to safety concerns, but he did not specify what the safety problem was, nor did he say how they solved the problem. If the situation could be stated openly, the problem would be much easier, but now it can only be solved by law.
