Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
At the 2023 Google I / O Conference, Android introduced a new image format for photo shooting-Ultra HDR. The photo format will be supported in Android 14, which allows photos to be taken in a backward compatible JPEG format, while providing a dynamic range beyond 8-bit, allowing photos captured by the camera to contain more amazing details in both light and dark.
Ultra HDR will greatly improve the quality of photos on top Android terminals, bringing the 10-bit HDR experience to the photos taken and shared by users. We are pleased to work with Qualcomm Technologies to take full advantage of Qualcomm's advanced 18-bit ISP features to bring Ultra HDR support to Snapdragon Mobile platform.

Snapdragon helps to shoot Ultra HD photos
10-bit HDR video has been supported on mobile for some time, but among the daily photos taken by mobile phones, 10-bit HDR photos are still relatively new. The Ultra HDR file contains a standard 8-bit (standard dynamic range, SDR) JPEG compressed base image, another smaller resolution JPEG image with gain mapping joined by the base image, and metadata for HDR reconstruction.
Ultra HDR images can be decoded by a range of different rendering formats from full SDR to full HDR. The final rendering method is self-adaptive, depending on the original intention of the content creator, display ability and display conditions, which can provide users with the best image perception. In addition, the image format is fully backward compatible with existing applications, and even if the existing application does not recognize the HDR function in the file, the image can be simply parsed as an SDR JPEG file.
Qualcomm's imaging ISP team works with the Android team to use Snapdragon's 18-bit ISP to support Ultra HDR format. Thanks to this cooperation, Snapdragon has become one of the first platforms in the world to support Ultra HDR photo shooting, showing amazing details in the dark and bright parts of the image. In the future, smartphones using Snapdragon Mobile platform and Android 14 will support Ultra HDR photo shooting and more image innovation.
Snapdragon Mobile platform has been leading smartphone innovation, bringing an amazing professional quality photo and video shooting experience. In terms of HDR video shooting:
Snapdragon 845 uses the first mobile ISP that supports 4K HDR video capture.
Snapdragon 855 added support for HDR10 + format.
Snapdragon 865 uses the world's first ISP to support Dolby horizon video shooting.
The first generation of Snapdragon 8 uses the first ISP to support smartphone shooting of 8K HDR videos.
Snapdragon is also far ahead in HDR photo shooting. In fact, Snapdragon 888 is the first mobile platform to support 10-bit deep HEIF format photos, allowing each photo to show more than 1 billion colors. With the powerful 18-bit ISP of the second generation Snapdragon 8, smartphone users can enhance their photo-shooting experience in RAW format. When users access uncompressed and unprocessed 16-bit dark RAW photos, smartphones will unleash the full potential of the photos.
Snapdragon and Qualcomm branded products are the products of Qualcomm Technologies and / or its subsidiaries.
