CTOnews.com, May 15, China: a working meeting on the promotion of the future Internet test facility FITI (Future Internet Technology Infrastructure) project was held at Tsinghua University on May 12. More than 100 people responsible for the construction of 40 universities including Tsinghua University attended the meeting.

According to reports, the FITI project is one of the 16 major scientific and technological infrastructure construction projects given priority during China's 12th five-year Plan period, and it is the first major national scientific and technological infrastructure project in China's information field. CTOnews.com found that the project, built by 40 universities, including Tsinghua University, is based on pure IPv6 technology and covers dozens of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government.

After five years of efforts, the project has basically completed the main construction task, and has built and opened a FITI high-performance backbone network, connecting 40 core nodes in 35 cities, with a maximum bandwidth of 200G, realizing interconnection with domestic and foreign IPv4 / IPv6 test facilities, has the ability to support large-scale network architecture innovation experiments, and can support large-scale future Internet trials in 4096 independent autonomous domains.

Wu Jianping, head of the FITI project and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that the FITI project is a major national scientific and technological infrastructure for future Internet architecture innovation, which aims to provide a world-leading open experimental environment for the research and design of various innovative future network architectures. It is another major Internet experimental platform jointly tackled by 40 universities, including Tsinghua University, after the Chinese education and research computer networks CERNET and CERNET2.

He said that the FITI project will build and operate large-scale network science experiment facilities that are unprecedented at home and abroad and open to the society, and will link up with national laboratories and other scientific and technological innovation bases in the future.
