CTOnews.com, May 15 (Reuters)-Swedish green battery manufacturer Northvolt has officially announced that it will build a new superbattery factory in Hyde, Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany.

▲ Northvolt battery, photo: Northvolt official website Northvolt signed a technical cooperation agreement with Volkswagen Group's Swedish truck manufacturer Scania as early as 2017 to jointly develop traction batteries for commercial vehicles. CTOnews.com has previously reported that after years of research cooperation, the two sides have announced that the new traction battery will be put into production and commercialized later this year, with an estimated service life of 1.5 million km.

German economy Minister Harbak said the new factory will provide 3000 jobs. The total investment of the Northvolt project is 4 billion euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 30.32 billion yuan), and the annual production capacity will reach 60 GWh.

Northvolt was founded in October 2006, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. Its founders are Tesla's former vice president of supply chain management Peter Karlsson and Paul Cheretti. At present, the annual battery production capacity of Northvolt has reached 170 GWh in the planned plant. On December 28, 2021, the company announced the manufacture of the first battery designed, developed and assembled locally in European history.
