CTOnews.com, May 14 (Xinhua)-- Apple is making major improvements to the Siri and plans to eliminate the "hey, Siri" way of waking up voice assistants that must be used in the next few years, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

In a recent Power On newsletter, Goolman said Apple is working on enabling Siri to understand and respond to commands by using the single word "Siri" as a trigger word. Users don't have to say "Hey, Siri."

This change may seem small, but it is actually a big technical challenge, requiring a lot of artificial intelligence training and low-level engineering work. The complexity is that Siri needs to be able to recognize a single word "Siri" in many different accents, while using two words "Hey, Siri" increases the likelihood that the system will correctly capture the signal. CTOnews.com notes that this change will bring Siri closer to Amazon's voice assistant, which can be triggered simply by a command that starts with "Alexa".

Goolman added that Apple is also working on deeper integration of Siri with third-party applications and services to provide better help. Siri improvements are expected to be launched in 2023 or 2024, which means they could be announced on WWDC with iOS 17 as early as this summer, and the event is expected to focus on Apple's mixed reality.
