According to foreign media reports, 5G has been in commercial use worldwide for four years since the three major Korean telecom operators launched 5G commercial services for public users in April 2019. With the continuous expansion of 5G network coverage and the increasing number of mobile phones supporting 5G, the number of 5G users worldwide is also increasing significantly.

As the first country in the world to launch 5G commercial services, South Korea currently has considerable 5G users. Although it has not yet surpassed 4G to occupy the dominant position, it is expected to exceed 30 million at the beginning of the month, accounting for 1/3 of mobile communication users.

However, according to foreign media reports, South Korea, which has a considerable number of 5G users, still has a gap with the initial expectations in terms of Internet speed.

Foreign media quoted data from South Korea's Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology as saying that as of October last year, the average download speed of 5G in South Korea was 896.10Mbps, while the upload speed was 93.16Mbps, which was 5.9times and 2.8times the average speed of 4G LTE networks in the same period, respectively.

Foreign media reported that before the 5G network was put into commercial use, users' expectations were high. South Korea and telecom operators also claimed that compared with 4G, 5G would be 20 times faster and its access capacity would be increased by 100 times. the latency is only 1/10 of 4G.
