Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen SuperHeavy, how many times registration failed, rain and snow carrying clues delivery! CTOnews.com May 14, Musk tweeted that the SpaceX third-generation Raptor engine (Raptor V3) has completed experiments, capable of achieving 35 MPa pressure and 269 tons of thrust. In addition, the starship's first-class super-heavy booster will use 33 Raptor engines, so the total thrust can reach 8878 tons (or 1950 million pounds).

For reference, the SpaceX first-generation Raptor engine has a thrust of 185t, the second-generation engine has a thrust of 230,000 tons (510,000 pounds), and the Saturn V 3408 tons (7.6 million pounds). In other words, the data here is about 17% higher than the previous generation of Raptor engines, and the thrust of the new starship booster is 2.56 times that of Saturn 5.

On April 20, SpaceX conducted its first fully integrated test flight for the starship at its Starbase facility, and although the launch was only half successful, engineers still had the opportunity to collect key data on Raptor engines and rocket ships. The Raptor engine uses a special fuel called Methalox, a mixture of cryogenic liquid methane and liquid oxygen.

The starship prototype is equipped with a Raptor V2 engine, which SpaceX calls "more power, fewer parts," lighter than the V1 (CTOnews.com Note: V1 weighs about 2000kg CTOnews.com V2 is about 1600kg), and piping and wiring will be less obvious.

It is said that V1 can produce about 185 tons of thrust, while V2 can generate about 230 tons of thrust, and the production cost of V2 is about half that of V1.

The company hopes to achieve higher performance / thrust with fewer components and minimize manufacturing time, which is important for one day commuting between the moon and Mars and establishing a base on Mars.
