CTOnews.com, May 13 (Xinhua) solid-state battery maker Huineng Technology plans to invest 5.2 billion euros (CTOnews.com Note: about 39.364 billion yuan) to build a new battery factory in Dunkirk, northern France, according to the French media Echo.

Huineng signed a technical cooperation agreement with Mercedes-Benz in January last year to jointly develop solid-state batteries for electric vehicles. CTOnews.com reviewed the agreement and learned that Mercedes-Benz will have a seat on Huineng's board of directors and work with the latter to expand the capacity of its battery plants in Europe to meet Mercedes-Benz's car battery needs.

Construction of the new plant is expected to begin in 2024 and will be completed in three phases over the next 10 years. The Huineng project has a total investment of 7.5 billion euros (currently about 56.775 billion yuan), the largest phase of the project will cost 5.2 billion euros (currently about 39.364 billion yuan), and the final production capacity will reach 120GWh.

Huineng Technology is the first company to mass-produce solid-state lithium ceramic batteries, which was founded in 2006. The company's products include silicon anode solid-state battery, metal lithium anode solid-state battery and solid-state battery based on bipolar technology.
