CTOnews.com, May 13 (Xinhua) Apple has been sued by patent rogue (patent troll), whose Secure Enclave is accused of infringing HP's patent 7779267 and is required to pay a "mandatory continuing license fee".

Lionra Technologies Ltd, a company owned by Atlantic IP, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, is a well-known patent hooligan in the industry.

Lionra sued Apple with a patent called "Method And Apparatus For using a Secret in a Distributed Computing System", a method and device that uses Secret in distributed computing systems.

Lionra's complaint further added: "Apple continues to actively encourage and guide its customers and end users (for example, through user manuals and online instructions on its website, as well as materials cited in Annex 6) to use the alleged products in a manner that directly infringes patents 267. for example, Apple promotes the security features of the Apple Pay.

CTOnews.com Note: Secure Enclave, whose Chinese name is Security compartment, is a dedicated security subsystem integrated into Apple system on Chip (SoC).

The security compartment is independent of the main processor and provides additional security protection to protect sensitive user data even if the application processor core is invaded. It follows the same design guidelines as SoC: Boot ROM is used to establish hardware trust roots, AES engine is used for efficient and secure encryption operations, and memory is protected.
