Toyota said in a statement that the leak of customer data was caused by a setting error in the cloud environment. The leaked contents include vehicle number and location information and so on. Toyota responded that the information was for internal management and would not be tracked to individual customers.

CTOnews.com reviewed Toyota Internet briefing documents and learned that the data breach covered approximately 2.15 million users who ordered Toyota's T-Connect, G-Link, G-Link Lite and G-BOOK telematics services between January 2, 2012 and April 17, 2023. In addition, traffic recorders uploaded to the cloud using corporate services provided by Toyota Internet from November 14, 2016 to April 4, 2023 are also publicly accessible on the Internet.

The company also said that the system error has now been fixed and that it has not yet confirmed that any data has been illegally used.
