CTOnews.com May 12 news, foreign technology media Tom's Hardware recently carried out a performance test on the Asustek ROG Ally game handset, and compared it with Steam Deck.

The Asustek ROG Ally game handset carries the AMD Ruilong Z1 Extreme, which is a customized version of the AMD R7 7840U and comes with the Radeon 780m GPU.

AMD officially claims that the chip has eight Zen 4 cores with a total of 16 threads, as well as 12 RDNA 3 cores and 24MB cache, which is nominal to deliver 8.6 TFLOPS of raw graphics performance, close to the Sony PS5 of 10.28 TFLOPS and well ahead of Steam Deck's 1.6 TFLOPS.

In GeekBench 6, the single-core score of the Asustek ROG Ally game handset is 2468 and the multi-core score is 11041; for comparison, the Steam Deck score is 1212 and 4233 respectively.

In terms of game measurement, the media tested four modes of Performance, Turbo, Turbo+AC and Silent, and found that there were great differences in the performance of Asustek ROG Ally game console in different modes.

At the default resolution (Ally is 1920, 1080, the team Deck is 1200, 800), the Asustek ROG Ally game handset runs most games with a frame rate lower than Steam Deck.

However, after ROG Ally adjusted the resolution to 1280mm 720, the frame rate of the game was very high:

In terms of battery life, the Asustek ROG Ally has a battery life of 4 hours, while the Steam Deck has a battery life of 7 hours. The duration of Ally in Tom's Hardware's web browsing test was 5 hours and 51 minutes, and the PCMark 10 test was 1 hour and 43 minutes.

In terms of temperature, the problem of overheating in the contact part of the palm was not found in the test. the hottest part was located in the vent and the temperature was 47.2 degrees Celsius.

The media commentary also pointed out that the Asustek ROG Ally is easy to disassemble and allows SSD to upgrade.
