CTOnews.com May 12, Samsung Electronics said it will publish a paper on SF4X at the 2023 VLSI Symposium to be held in Japan. This is a 4nm foundry process for high performance computing (HPC) customers and is expected to be put into mass production in the first half of this year. Samsung Electronics said in its paper that SF4X can optimize energy efficiency by 23% and improve performance by 10%.

Samsung Electronics began last year to divide the 4nm process into five categories from two to five, gradually expanding semiconductor applications such as HPC and automotive semiconductors. CTOnews.com learned from the report that industry insiders say Samsung has recently been steadily improving the yield of the 4nm process through various measures.

Samsung Electronics plans to actively attract customers like Nvidia through mass production of SF4X technology. The South Korean technology giant began mass production of the world's first 3nm chip for HPC in June 2022 and will begin mass production of the second generation of 3nm process in 2024.
