Linda Yaccarino, the chief advertising sales executive at Comcast's NBC Global, could be Musk's Twitter CEO, according to a Silicon Valley executive and former Hollywood executive who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Tesla's shares closed up 2.1% on Thursday, with analysts saying the announcement will allay concerns among some investors that Mr Musk is devoting too much energy to Twitter.

The electric car's share price was hit after Mr Musk took the helm of Twitter in October last year.
