CTOnews.com, May 11 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Volkswagen CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Arno Antlitz said today that its software division Cariad may launch its next-generation 2.0 platform in 2027 or 2028, according to the Financial Times.

Volkswagen's 2.0 platform, which will implement the so-called L4 self-driving, was scheduled to launch in 2026, but development has been delayed.

Arno Antlitz said it first wanted to focus on the current platform version, which will be implemented in high-end electric models such as the Porsche e-Macan and Audi Q6 e-tron next year. He added: "there will be great cars on that platform. This gives us a little flexibility to postpone 2.0 to 2027 or 2028."

According to CTOnews.com, Volkswagen has appointed Peter Bosch, head of Bentley production, to take the helm of Cariad's software division. "it will be a very strong team focused on the transformation of Cariad, with the goal of relying more on external partners and reducing internal work to reduce capital consumption," Antlitz said.

Volkswagen's ultimate goal is to provide a unified software and electronic architecture for all Volkswagen Group vehicles. It will use Qualcomm solutions in Europe and North America and chips developed by Horizon Robots in the Chinese market.
