CTOnews.com, May 11 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- Apple is facing regulatory pressure from App Store around the world. To prove its support for small developers, a recent study released by Analysis Group, funded by Apple, shows that the income of small developers on App Store has increased by 71% in the past two years.

The study defines small developers as those who earn no more than $1 million a year (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 6.93 million yuan) and download no more than 1 million times a year. The study also excluded developers who had never had more than 1000 annual downloads.

Some of the data from the study are as follows:

In 2022, more than 90% of developers in the app store were small developers.

In 2022, nearly 80% of small developers are active on multiple platforms, and about 40% of small developers' app downloads come from users outside their country.

App store revenue for small developers who were active in 2020 increased by 71% in 2022.

Among the active small developers in 2020, the income of health and fitness, exercise and lifestyle apps has more than doubled in the past two years.

More than 40 per cent of developers who sold digital goods and services through the app store in 2022 and earned more than $1 million were either not in the app store five years ago or earned less than $10,000.

Apple is promoting the economic impact of app stores on small businesses in response to antitrust scrutiny around the world over app store rules. For example, it is reported that iOS 17, which will be released this fall, will allow EU users to install software directly through third-party app stores or directly (so-called "side loads") in order to comply with the Digital Market Act. A survey in April showed that at least 60% of Mac developers were interested in distributing their iOS apps through non-Apple App Store channels if they could.
