CTOnews.com, May 11 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- Vast, a start-up private space company in California, announced that it plans to use SpaceX rockets to put the world's first commercial space station into orbit and provide passengers with services to and from the space station.

The company's founder and CEO, Jed McCaleb, a billionaire in the cryptocurrency industry, said he would invest $300m (CTOnews.com Note: about 2.079 billion yuan) to build a space station called Haven-1 and organize the first manned mission called Vast-1. McCaleb acknowledges that the entire project could cost more than $300 million, but he doesn't plan to seek outside investment until the company builds a space station and starts to make a profit.

Vast hopes to launch the Haven-1 space station by August 2025, but this is an extremely difficult challenge that requires extensive testing and the development of key technologies, such as life support systems. McCaleb said Vast could use SpaceX's already developed life support system for the Dragon spacecraft, which will be used to transport passengers to its space station. Vast will provide the Haven-1 space station with the necessary consumables, such as oxygen and other life-sustaining substances, but the company does not need to develop life support systems from scratch.

Several other companies are also working to develop private space stations, some of which are supported by NASA. NASA and its global partners are seeking to replace the aging International Space Station (ISS) with a privately developed space station, which has been in low-Earth orbit since 2000.

Vast did not disclose the specific cost of the agreement with SpaceX. McCaleb has allocated US $300 million to the Haven-1 project, and it is not clear how much of that will be used to pay for launch services to SpaceX. "Vast is selling up to four manned seats for its first flight to the Haven-1 space station," Vast said. Expected customers include space agencies and individuals involved in science and charity projects at home and abroad. "

The Haven-1 space station will be able to launch using SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, and Vast says its ultimate goal is to create a giant orbiting space station with artificial gravity that can be launched from SpaceX's still-developing starship, which exploded in the air during its first test flight in April.
