CTOnews.com May 11, Reuters reported that Italy's antitrust agency AGCM said on Thursday that it had launched an investigation into the alleged abuse of its dominant position in the app market by US technology giant Apple.

Apple imposes "stricter privacy policies on third-party app developers than it does on itself," the regulator said. In addition, AGCM said in its statement that "external app developers are at a disadvantage in terms of the quality of data provided by Apple."

CTOnews.com notes that Apple has been fined several times by Italian antitrust authorities. In November 2020, AGCM fined Apple 10 million euros for advertising that the iPhone was waterproof, but did not specify that it needed to be waterproof under certain conditions. In November 2021, AGCM again fined Apple € 10 million for violating Italy's Consumer Law by not giving users the option of using personal data for commercial purposes.
