CTOnews.com, May 11, Google held the 2023 I / O developer Conference today and announced a lot of new things for Android and Pixel products. In its keynote speech, Google reiterated that Apple did not provide support for the RCS (CTOnews.com Rich Communication Suite) messaging protocol on iPhone.

RCS is a new open messaging standard created by Google to replace SMS SMS. Although Google has been promoting RCS for every Android user, Apple never seems to be open to the idea of adopting RCS on iOS, because Apple already has iMessage, its alternative to SMS, which can only be used on Apple devices.

Apple's rejection of RCS ultimately affects the conversation between iPhone and Android users using default messaging applications on their respective devices. At today's I / O conference, Google said that more than 800 million people around the world are using RCS services.

Last year, when a customer asked RCS that she could not send some videos to her mother because she used an Android phone, Apple CEO Tim Cook said "you can buy your mother an iPhone". Cook also said he did not see Apple users asking for "a lot of effort to do it." In the United States, where iMessage is very popular, allowing iPhone users to send RCS may eventually hurt iPhone sales.

Introducing RCS into iPhone will bring many benefits to users-not only the interoperability between iOS and Android, but also because RCS has end-to-end encrypted messages, while SMS does not. But according to a Bloomberg report in December 2022, Apple still has no plans to adopt the RCS in its devices.
