CTOnews.com May 10 news, CTOnews.com learned from the WPC Wireless Charging Alliance, April 19, with the "Qi v.2.0 interface specification" approved by the WPC Wireless Charging Alliance Council, Qi2 standard has been officially released.

The WPC Wireless Charging Alliance said that the Qi2 ("Qi" pronounced "Qi") standard will replace its predecessor Qi and is gradually completing the necessary work on quality assurance, certification testing and product registration. Qi2 products are expected to be launched in the holiday season at the end of 2023.

Paul Struhsaker, executive director of WPC Wireless Charging Alliance, said: "Consumers everywhere are looking for more energy-efficient and sustainable products. The perfect alignment achieved by Qi2 reduces energy losses when the phone is misaligned with the charger, thus improving energy efficiency. In addition, since the plug is easy to break and there is stress on the charging cable during daily use, the wired charger needs to be replaced from time to time, and Qi2 can reduce landfill waste generated by replacing the wired charger. "

Compared to the current Qi standard, Qi2 uses magnetic power profile technology, which claims to ensure perfect matching between the device and the charger, thus improving energy efficiency. Qi2 will enable the industry to develop faster wireless charging technologies while ensuring that the charging process is always safe and does not shorten battery life or damage the receiver.

In addition, Qi2 does not require a flat-to-flat connection, but can support new product shapes with magnetic locking features, such as AR / VR headsets. It will also support new mobile phone back cover magnetic accessories, such as external batteries, which means that future wireless charging panels from manufacturers such as Samsung and OPPO can use technology similar to Apple MagSafe.
