CTOnews.com, May 10, Microsoft's official blog has announced some changes to the Windows Server Container (container) image to reduce its capacity, delete some configuration unit files from the "service layer", disable some unnecessary scheduling tasks, and delete unnecessary log files.

Microsoft explained that the Windows Server Container image contains a basic layer and a service layer that overrides the service binaries. To help reduce the size of the image, Microsoft has removed some configuration unit files from the Windows\ System32\ Config directory from the service layer.

Microsoft is not satisfied with these changes, and in the coming months, it hopes to find a way to remove Edge browsers as the default component in Server and Windows images. Users can install Edge as an optional component rather than pre-install it. Over time, Microsoft plans to undock other components, and Edge will be the first.

Another way Microsoft plans to reduce the size of the image is to remove the external layer from the Windows Container base image, a change that will allow customers to redistribute the container image from the container registry-which Microsoft says will also improve the developer experience.
