Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Beijing, May 10 (Xinhua)-- streaming music service Spotify has reportedly deleted tens of thousands of songs generated by artificial intelligence startup Boomy, hoping to respond to growing problems such as traffic fraud by stepping up censorship.
In recent months, AI songs have become popular in the music industry, and more and more such content has flooded into major streaming platforms.
Record giant Universal has warned major streaming platforms that they have seen suspicious traffic in Boomy's songs, according to a person familiar with the matter at Tuyuan Pexels.
Boomy's songs were deleted because of the suspicion of "brushing traffic", that is, robots were used to pretend to be human listeners in some songs, artificially inflating audience data.
The existence of artificial intelligence makes this activity easier because it can help people generate many songs in a short period of time and then upload them to the Internet to play.
Founded two years ago and headquartered in California, Boomy allows users to choose from a variety of styles and descriptions, such as "rap Rhythm" and "Rain Night" to create AI songs. Users can then post the song to the streaming service to earn royalty revenue. Boomy says its users have generated more than 14 million songs.
Spotify confirmed that it removed some of the features of Boomy. "brushing traffic is a long-standing industry-wide problem, and Spotify is working to eliminate it in our services."
Michael Nash (Michael Nash), Universal's chief digital officer, said: "We are always delighted to see that partners remain vigilant in their monitoring and activities on their platforms."
The Spotify purge comes amid negative comments from the music industry and the public criticism of the proliferation of songs on platforms such as Spotify (100000 tracks a day) and growing system manipulation by prominent music broker Lucian Grainge over the past few months.
"if we don't control the recent explosive development of generative artificial intelligence, it will increase unpopular content on major platforms and raise rights issues within the framework of existing copyright laws," Grange, the Universal Music CEO, told investors last week.
Although the use of artificial intelligence to create songs is nothing new, the controversy caused by the technology has attracted more and more attention in recent months. The upsurge of streaming media has given birth to a series of services, providing artists with new ways to succeed. A Google search for "Buy Spotify Traffic" returns millions of results. For example, 1000 Spotify broadcasts can be bought for $6 on Spotistar.
It was reported last month that Universal Music had written to major streaming services asking them to crack down on generative artificial intelligence. In the same week, a song that uses artificial intelligence to imitate the voices of Drake and The Weeknd went viral on major streaming platforms.
"We've never seen anything like this in the technology industry," Spotify CEO Daniel Ike (Daniel Ek) said on a conference call last week about advances in artificial intelligence.
Boomy resumed submitting new tracks to Spotify last weekend. The two sides are in talks to restore Boomy's other works. "Boomy firmly opposes any form of manipulation and brushing," the company said. "We will work with industry partners to solve this problem."
