Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com May 10 news, according to South Korean media The Elec reported that Samsung Display and LG Display two panel companies have not ordered the key equipment required for the 8th generation production line, and the whole construction work will run for at least one year.

According to previous plans, Apple's OLED panel iPad next year will use the existing 6th generation OLED production line; and subsequent MacBook products will use the 8th generation production line, which will further improve production capacity and cost performance.

The report pointed out that due to the obvious decline in Mac sales, two Korean panel companies are hesitant to build the 8th generation OLED production line, worried that the investment will not get enough profit return.

Apple reported in its most recent quarterly earnings call that Mac revenue fell sharply year-over-year, from $10.4 billion (CTOnews.com notes: currently about 71.968 billion yuan) to $7.2 billion (currently about 49.824 billion yuan). Mac revenue also fell to $7.7 billion last quarter, compared with $10.9 billion a year ago.

Since the OLED display in the MacBook may only raise the selling price, display panel vendors reportedly believe Apple will inevitably try to lower the unit price.

Samsung said in April that it plans to spend 4.1 trillion won (currently about 21.484 billion yuan) to build the 8th generation OLED panel production line in 2026;LG Display is already in a state of loss, and it is difficult to make a decision to invest in the 8th generation without Apple's guaranteed order.
