Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Recently, the China Academy of Information and Communications released the "Research report on necessary patents and Standard proposals for Global 5G Standards (2023)". Chinese enterprises have reported good news again. A total of five Chinese brands have been selected into the TOP10 list this year, one more than last year, and now account for half of the country. Among them, Huawei 5G standard essential patents ranked first in the world, and Xiaomi entered the top 10 for the first time at a high growth rate.

It is reported that the report makes a statistical analysis based on all 5G declared patents and extended patents of the same race in the ETSI patent database as of December 31, 2022. Among the industry entities declared by ETSI for 5G standard essential patents, the number of valid global patent families of the top 10 enterprises accounts for more than 75% of the total number of patent families, basically reflecting the main trend of global 5G standard essential patent activities.

In terms of the proportion of effective global patent families, Huawei ranks first with 14.59 per cent, Qualcomm second with 10.04 per cent and Samsung third with 8.80 per cent. The fourth to tenth companies are ZTE, LG, Nokia, Ericsson, Datang, OPPO and Xiaomi.

More data show that China has taken the lead in the global 5G development. According to information disclosed by the intellectual property Development Research Center of the State intellectual property Office last year, as of June 2022, there were more than 210000 necessary patents of 5G standard worldwide, involving 47000 patent families, of which 18,000 patents were declared by China, accounting for 40% of the world, ranking first.

This time Xiaomi is among the top 10 necessary patents in the global 5G standard for the first time. Although it started late, its growth rate is amazing. It can be called a typical example of the high growth of China's 5G leaping development journey. Judging from the rate of ranking climbing, multi-authoritative data show that by the end of 2020, the number of Xiaomi 5G standard patent claims has entered the top 15 in the world, the top 13 by the end of 2021, and the top 10 by the end of 2022.

It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi set up a 5G pre-research team at the end of 2015, and has been continuously engaged in 5G technological innovation since then. In contrast, Qualcomm started its research and development of 5G as early as 2006, starting about 10 years later. At present, the share of effective global patent families is 10% and 4% respectively, and the gap is getting smaller and smaller.

Such achievements are inseparable from the deep participation and comprehensive layout of Xiaomi technical team in the field of global standardization. As of September 2022, Xiaomi had joined more than 30 international / national / industry standardization organizations and held key positions in some standardization organizations. Xiaomi has submitted more than 3200 5G / B5G related technical papers to 3GPP and more than 80 audio and video related technical papers to MPEG and 3GPP SA4. Xiaomi has led and participated in the formulation of more than 260 national, industry and group standards.

Among them, 3GPP is the standardization organization for the formulation of global mobile communication technical specifications, and Xiaomi has achieved omni-directional coverage and related topics in the three working groups of RAN, SA and CT of 3GPP. At present, 3GPP is in the stage of transition from 5G-A (5.5G) to 6G, and the next few years will be the key period for the formulation of 6G international standards.

According to Xiaomi's first white paper on intellectual property rights released at the end of last year, Xiaomi's technology research and development has entered 12 technology areas, including 5G mobile communication technology, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, while it is based on intelligent manufacturing. into robots, unmanned factories, intelligent electric cars, etc., with 98 overall segments. By the end of 2022, Xiaomi had more than 30,000 patents worldwide.
