CTOnews.com May 9 news, the Chinese Academy of Information and Communications recently released the "Global 5G Standard necessary patents and Standards proposal Research report (2023)." The report shows that the number of annual claims of 5G standard essential patents is increasing year by year. As of December 31, 2022, there are more than 84900 5G standard essential patents and more than 604000 valid global patents.

Chinese companies account for five of the top 10 effective global patent companies, one more than last year. The top 10 are Huawei, Qualcomm, Samsung, ZTE, LG, Nokia, Ericsson, Datang, OPPO and Xiaomi, while Apple is not in the top 10. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that Xiaomi has entered the top ten.

According to the report, among the industry entities in which ETSI declares necessary patents for 5G standards, the number of valid global patent families of the top 10 enterprises accounts for more than 75% of the total number of patent families, basically reflecting the main trend of necessary patent activities in the global 5G standard.

According to the research of GSA, as of March 2023, operators in 97 countries or regions around the world have deployed 249 5G networks, and global manufacturers have released more than 1800 5G terminals.
