You may think that shooting the Milky way requires very expensive equipment, as well as high shooting technology and late-stage technology. in fact, it does not take a lot of effort to shoot the Milky way with the cameras or even mobile phones in our hands.

Today, we will bring you a complete Galaxy shooting plan from preparation to shooting, and then to later editing:

1. To know about the Milky way is not to say too much about the Milky way itself. what we need to know is the time and place of the Milky way.

From late spring to late autumn in the northern hemisphere (roughly May-October, but not suitable for observation in winter), the Milky way appears in the night sky, and the Milky way can usually be seen rising from the east in the early hours of spring.

At midnight in summer, the Milky way will cross the sky, roughly due south, and the Milky way is very suitable for observation and photography.

In autumn, the Milky way extends from southwest to northwest, and in late autumn it appears from southeast to northwest, and it can be observed after dark.

In other words, if you want to photograph the Milky way, late spring, summer and autumn are more suitable, and the Milky way will appear earlier and earlier at night.

two。 The shooting plan only knows the time and place of the Milky way is not enough, but also need to know exactly when it is appropriate to shoot the Milky way.

(1) the light environment is "bright moon and sparse stars". We all know this truth. when the moon is round and the moonlight is strong, the light of the stars will be covered up, so it is not suitable to photograph the Milky way at this time.

In other words, the first to seventh, twenty-third to thirty days of the lunar calendar can avoid moonlight, and at this time the light environment is suitable for shooting the Milky way.

(2) in terms of weather, the weather mainly needs to pay attention to the air environment, cloud and fog factors, good shooting weather is very important, generally speaking, the weather is clear and dry, the air is permeable, and the night without clouds and fog is suitable for shooting the Milky way. After heavy rain and strong winds in summer, it is generally more suitable to shoot the Milky way.

Or to put it simply, if we can see a lot of stars directly in the night sky, then it will not be bad to photograph the Milky way (just because the Milky way is not visible to the naked eye does not mean it cannot be photographed).

(3) the natural environment can be seen from the words "natural environment". Generally speaking, it is not suitable to photograph the Milky way in cities, because the light pollution is so serious that even the suburbs of many cities can not see many stars all the year round.

Therefore, when shooting the Milky way, we try to choose places far away from the city center and light pollution. You can directly search the words "light pollution map" on the browser to see the light pollution nearby. The darker the place on the map, the weaker the light pollution, and the more suitable for shooting.

In addition, the air at higher elevations is generally more permeable, and all kinds of pollution are less, so it is naturally more suitable for shooting.

Due to the influence of weather, moon, light and other factors, if we do not go to western Sichuan, Xinjiang and other places, there is not much time for shooting the Milky way every year, so we must cherish it and make a good plan.

3. Auxiliary equipment (1) hardware shooting of the Milky way in addition to the tripod and camera is necessary, we also need a large aperture wide-angle lens, the maximum aperture had better be above F3.5, if we can achieve F1.8 this kind of natural better

The focal length had better be below 24mm, because the Milky way is very long and very large, such as F2.816-35mm in the big ternary is basically enough.

In addition, for better picture quality, try to choose a full-frame or more camera, because shooting the Milky way requires a good high-sense performance.

(2) Software here, I recommend two very convenient software. one is to check the "Lijing Weather" of the weather. The weather prediction function is very good, which can help us to know the weather conditions of the shooting site in advance.

The second is Star Walk 2, which can view the starry sky of our location in real time and help us locate the Milky way during shooting.

These two models are basically essential for star enthusiasts and are free of charge.

4. The professional shooting mode of the camera operating mobile phone can also be referred to:

(1) High sensitivity is required for shooting the Milky way. Because the ambient light is very weak, the sensitivity is generally set between 1600 and 6400, which is only a reference range. You can adjust the test shot according to your environment. Generally, 2000-3200 will work well.

(2) try to use a large aperture as much as possible. according to my personal test, if the aperture is smaller than F3.5, the shooting effect will not be very good, so it is good to open the maximum aperture with the lens we have.

(3) shutter speed why not put the aperture, sensitivity and shutter speed together, because there is a "500 rule" about the shutter speed of shooting stars. Dividing 500 by the focal length of your lens is the maximum shutter time that can be supported.

For example, if you use the 24mm focal length, 500max 24 is about 20s. When the shutter speed exceeds this period of time, the stars will tail, showing a line rather than a dot, which affects the look and feel.

Therefore, it is recommended that we do not blindly believe in other people's data, according to their own equipment and shooting environment for testing, generally 20 seconds or so can shoot a relatively clear Milky way.

(4) when focusing, just use manual focus, manually adjust to infinity, we can also lock a bright star first, and the star is clear after magnification to indicate accurate focus.

5. In fact, in the later stage, unless it is in a very good shooting environment, otherwise the finished Galaxy will not be particularly obvious, we need to carry out some post-operation.

First of all, for the phenomenon that the stars are not obvious, we can appropriately increase the white color levels, increase a little bit of contrast and clarity, and increase some "de-obscurity", so that the stars and galaxies in the picture will be much more obvious.

The second is noise reduction, this step is actually quite a headache for people who do not often shoot the starry sky, because the noise reduction included in LR is very chicken rib, the plug-in effect of PS is very troublesome, and the effect is almost useless, so we should try our best to do a good job of pre-shooting when shooting.

Here I recommend NoiseXTerminator (NXT), which focuses on star noise reduction software, which can be installed into PS as a plug-in, but it is also troublesome to download the AI model. This is why the whole picture is more suitable for shooting the Milky way.

6. Other points for attention are shooting at night, or in places far from the city, you must pay attention to safety, it is best to have someone to accompany.

The second is to get your clothes ready, even on summer nights, it is easier to catch cold.

In addition, pay attention to the condition of the camera, some old cameras will slow down, overheat, or even burn internal components after long exposure, so let the camera have a proper rest and don't lose power in one breath.
