CTOnews.com May 9 news, Musk said that Tesla will provide a free one-month FSD fully autonomous driving experience package for all car owners in North America in the future, as long as the FSD is super smooth and not just safe. FSD is currently priced at $15000 in North America (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB 104000) or $199Unix per month.

He also mentioned that Tesla was prepared to expand to the rest of the world after ensuring that FSD could first run well on local roads and after the country received regulatory approval. He points out that being safe and smooth is very important for the FSD experience.

CTOnews.com warned that although the FSD is called fully autopilot, it does not actually meet the need for full autopilot, and drivers still need to be vigilant and ready to take over the vehicle. Moreover, Musk currently does not provide a specific timing for the expansion of FSD outside North America.

In fact, Tesla never disclosed the percentage of buyers who ordered the feature, but electrek estimated that the proportion of North American users was between 15 and 20 per cent, based on previously released data from Tesla, and perhaps only 10 per cent globally.

Musk did not explain why Tesla launched an one-month free trial for all Tesla cars in North America, but foreign media believe there may be two reasons. First of all, FSD is driven by deep neural networks and is still technically in the testing stage, which means that it needs a lot of data to train and improve. By launching FSD on every Tesla car in North America, Tesla can collect a lot of driving data, even in a month. At the same time, this is actually promoting FSD and its functions, which is equivalent to Tesla letting you taste ice cream for free and attracting you to buy a scoop.

Since November last year, anyone in North America who wants to apply for a FSD experience has had to pay $15000 for a FSD kit. Outside North America, Tesla has been restricted in allowing car owners to use FSD because of stricter regulations.

In China, although Tesla can choose the "fully self-driving ability" of 64000 yuan, car owners can only use AP and EAP, including automatic in-lane steering, automatic braking and automatic navigation of highway ramps, but it is not a FSD after all. However, Caixin reported on April 3 that Tesla was about to begin large-scale FSD testing in China, but did not provide further details.
