CTOnews.com, May 8 (Xinhua)-- with the increasing demand for intelligent connected cars and self-driving, the number of chips required in this field is also increasing sharply, and the automotive market will become a key growth area for chip manufacturers.

Qualcomm officially announced today that it would acquire Autotalks, an Israeli car communications chip maker, and strengthen its Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio by accelerating the adoption of V2X technology timeline, hoping to deepen its automotive business, but did not elaborate on the financial status of the deal.

At present, Autotalks mainly produces special chips in the field of self-driving, which are used in the V2X communication technology of intelligent vehicles, which aims to improve road safety.

Nakul Duggal, senior vice president of Qualcomm Automotive, said: "We have been investing in the research, development and deployment of V2X since 2017 and believe that as the automotive market matures, an independent V2X safety architecture will be needed to improve the safety of road users and intelligent transportation systems."

Qualcomm said last year that its car business had grown to $30 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 207.3 billion yuan), an increase of more than $10 billion since the end of July.
