India's Ministry of IT recently issued a requirement that mobile phone manufacturers must ensure that all smartphones can use FM radios.

The report points out that all smartphones sold in India should be mandatory to enable FM radios by default. Through this move, the Indian Government aims to bridge the digital divide and enable people living in rural and remote areas to have access to radio services. In addition, FM radio, as a low-cost and reliable means of communication, helps to issue emergency notices.

According to reports, the requirement was issued by the Indian government to the Indian Honeycomb and Electronics Association (ICEA) and the Information Technology Manufacturers Association (MAIT). India's IT Ministry said that if a smartphone has a built-in FM radio function, it should not be disabled. In addition, if the smartphone does not have the FM radio function, the manufacturer must include it in such devices.
