According to news in the morning of May 8, Beijing time, former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer (Marissa Mayer) admitted that if she were given another chance, she would make up for three major regrets, one of which was the acquisition of Netflix.

In an interview, Mayer reiterated that one of her regrets at Yahoo was that she hired the wrong chief operating officer, Enrique de Castro, who she fired after 15 months at the COO.

Under Mayer's leadership, Yahoo acquired Tumblr, a social blogging platform, in May 2013 for an all-cash deal of $1.1 billion. A source at the time said Mayer was "very involved in the deal" and worked overtime many times until late at night.

But nearly six years after leaving the company, Mayer told the media that it might not be the best acquisition, especially when the company was also considering the possibility of buying Hulu or Netflix.

"I think Netflix was valued at $4 billion and Hulu at $1.3 billion," Mr Mayer said. "in hindsight, either of these two companies would have been a better acquisition."

Yahoo wrote down the value of Tumblr by a total of $712 million in 2016, which Yahoo said was due to a number of factors, "including our projected Tumblr operating results and estimated future cash flow reduction."

However, Mayer said her biggest regret was that she had not been able to "split Alibaba's shares in a tax-free manner, thus separating the company's assets".

"if we do this, we can save 10 billion dollars for shareholders or let them earn that money, and no matter how we look at it, we have paid the tax," she said. " She added: "this will allow Yahoo to remain an independent company and is likely to achieve greater success."

Verizon bought Yahoo for $4.48 billion in 2017 and merged it with AOL, prompting Mayer to resign. She received a salary of $23 million after leaving her job.

Just five years later, however, Verizon sold Yahoo and AOL to private equity firm Apollo Global Management for $5 billion.

Mayer was an early employee of Google before joining Yahoo as CEO. Since then, as a co-founder, she founded a start-up called Sunshine, which developed applications based on artificial intelligence, including a contact manager.
