To reverse its decline, Amazon plans to transform Alexa with ChatGPT technology to make it smarter, more fun and more profitable. According to Businessinsider, internal documents reveal that Amazon CEO Andy Andy Jassy has an ambitious goal to make Alexa seem to be thinking rather than extracting information from a database. He hopes Alexa will become "the best personal assistant in the world."

Specifically, Amazon wants Alexa to have more innovative entertainment features, including more conversational video search, personalized recommendations, and more interactive story and news reading. For example, if users are looking for a show similar to Netflix's "Paris Lovers" but less fashion-focused, Alexa can recommend Amazon's homemade "the Great Lady Mercer" and give reasons for it. If the user wants to know more about the recommended program, Alexa can give a summary of the sentence and play the trailer on a device with a screen, and the user can play the program directly on the TV through voice commands.

Another example is if the user asks, "what should I watch tonight?" Alexa can give you some options based on past search results. Users can further narrow their search, such as "Don't be too romantic" or "Oscar-winning movies". When users finish watching the movie, Alexa can also provide user discussion boards, short films, actor interviews and other content.

In addition to video search, Amazon wants Alexa to provide better news summaries and Q & A content. For example, if a user asks how many wolves there are in Washington State after hearing a news story about the growth of the wolf population, Alexa can give the answer and recommend a podcast about endangered wolf species.

Amazon also plans to launch a new storytelling feature for home users. In a scene described in the document, Alexa was able to create a bedtime story about "Mittens, the first cat to ever go to the moon (Mittens, the first cat on the moon)" based on an 8-year-old's need for "cat and moon". If the child is playing with an Olaf toy, the Echo Show device with a screen can recognize it and add the Disney character to the story. It can also make stories more interactive, such as involving children in creating stories or generating concept maps on Echo Show screens, and the document also mentions opportunities to work with companies such as Disney and Lego.

All of this seems to be part of Amazon's potential to boost Alexa's revenue. CTOnews.com noted that during last week's earnings call, Jesse said Amazon had sold more than 100 million devices with Alexa worldwide and mentioned that the company was building a "bigger, more versatile, more powerful" large language model as the basis for Alexa.
