Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu and OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com May 6 news, according to foreign science and technology media Tech News Space reports, AMD plans to phase out the initialization and boot library of AGESA (AMD General Packaging Software Architecture) from 2026 and switch to openSIL (open source chip initialization library) to simplify the UEFI firmware creation process for server and consumer platforms.

AMD releases AGESA firmware updates every few months, so it has some influence in the user community. AGESA is a set of libraries designed to initialize and boot AMD processors.

Whenever a new AMD processor or new memory format appears on the market, such as the recently released 24GB and 48GB DDR5 memory, AMD releases a new version of AGESA to increase support for new products.

AMD said that AGESA updates are often targeted by cyber criminals, so in April this year, he launched the openSIL project, a set of open libraries with components to simplify firmware creation.

The idea of the project is to move the hardware initialization code to separate, independently tested and maintained openSIL libraries that are written in the popular C language and can be statically linked to the main firmware without using a specific protocol.

CTOnews.com note: it should be noted that openSIL is not a substitute for UEFI. The libraries provided allow you to quickly and easily add support for the required hardware to standard UEFI firmware, as well as alternative firmware built on CoreBoot, oreboot, FortiBIOS, and Project μ platforms.
