CTOnews.com, May 6, China Unicom Zhejiang Branch opened Zhejiang's first ultra-long-distance 5G base station facing the East China Sea on Dongmen Island, Xiangshan County, Ningbo, covering a distance of up to 50 kilometers, according to the Information and propaganda Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Network technology experts from Zhejiang Unicom and ZTE went 12 nautical miles into the East China Sea on April 26 to jointly conduct the first test of marine 5G network coverage technology.

CTOnews.com obtains from the article that the 5G base station adopts a Longbo lens antenna which has more advantages in the group network, light weight, high gain and good beam directivity, as well as high-power multi-channel RRU equipment that can enhance the coverage capacity of the base station, realizing ultra-long-range coverage up to 50 kilometers in 30 °sector.

During the testing process of marine 5G network coverage technology, network technical experts from Zhejiang Unicom and ZTE went deep into 12 nautical miles in the East China Sea and carried out a series of verification tests of ultra-long-range sea surface coverage, including downlink FTP and fixed-point sea surface services, and the test results met expectations.

As of February 2023, China Unicom had 1.17 million 5G base stations, accounting for about 30 per cent of the world. According to the operation data of March 2023, the number of 5G package users of China Unicom reached 223.8 million as of March 2023. The number of large connection users is 899.8 million and the number of Internet of things users is about 415.7 million.
