In their business report to shareholders, TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin and President Wei Zhijia reviewed TSMC's development over the past year and mentioned that TSMC's technological development is preparing for mass production of 2nm technology (N2), which is expected to begin mass production in 2025, which will be produced in Hsinchu and Taichung Science Park.

In terms of technological development, the TSMC shareholder business report said that the company's 2nm technology will adopt a Nanosheet transistor structure and provide full-process efficiency and power efficiency benefits. Compared with N3EMagneN2, the speed is 10% faster at the same power consumption, or 25% less than 30% at the same speed, to meet the increasing demand for energy-saving computing.

TSMC also said that research and development of N2 technology is under way as planned, with trial production expected in 2024 and mass production in 2025.

The report also said that TSMC increased its R & D spending to US $5.47 billion in 2022 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 37.798 billion yuan), and the 5nm family technology has entered its third year of mass production, contributing 26% of TSMC's revenue.

The N4 process began mass production in 2022. TSMC has also launched N4P and N4X processes. N4P research and development is progressing smoothly and is expected to be mass produced in 2023. N4X is TSMC's first technology focusing on high-performance computing (HPC) and high workload, and is expected to finalize customer product design in 2023.

After the N3 process entered mass production in 2022, N3E with better performance, power consumption and yield is expected to be mass produced in the second half of 2023. TSMC said that N3 and N3E customer participation is very high, the number of product design orders in the first and second years of mass production will be more than twice that of N5, and it is expected that the N3 family will become another large-scale and long-term process technology for TSMC.
