CTOnews.com, May 5 (Xinhua)-- in a shareholder letter released today, Apple supplier Cirrus Logic seems to confirm that iPhone 15 Pro models will no longer have solid-state buttons, MacRumors reported.

"in other words, among the HPMS opportunities we discussed, the new product launched this fall that we mentioned in the previous shareholder letter is no longer expected to be launched as planned," the letter said. "as our current understanding of customers' future plans for the product is limited, we are removing revenue related to the component from the internal model."

CTOnews.com Note: HPMS refers to the high-performance mixed-signal chip introduced by Cirrus Logic, including the tactile driver for the tactile engine in iPhone.

In a letter from shareholders in November, the Texas-based company said it had continued to "engage with strategic customers" and expected to "launch new HPMS components in smartphones next year". Apple is Cirrus Logic's biggest customer, accounting for 79 per cent of its revenue in fiscal 2022.

In a note to investors today, Barclays analysts said Cirrus Logic's comments could refer to "solid state buttons". Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo initially said the iPhone 15 Pro would be equipped with two additional Taptic Engine engines that provide tactile feedback when a solid button is pressed, while Cirrus Logic may provide components.

Last month, Guo Mingyi said that due to "unresolved pre-production technical problems", the iPhone 15 Pro models will no longer have solid-state buttons as originally rumored, and these devices are expected to continue to carry the traditional buttons that move when pressed; there have been rumors that the ring / mute switch will still be replaced by a button as previously claimed, and will also support customization like Apple Watch Ultra's Action button.

Analyst Jeff Pu believes that the solid-state button may be delayed to the iPhone 16 Pro model, which will be launched next year, but Cirrus Logic's comments today indicate that suppliers are not yet aware of these specific plans.
