CTOnews.com, May 5, according to the latest report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, the global smartphone market shipped 2.802 billion units in the first quarter of 2023, down 14% from the same period last year and 7% from the previous quarter.

Samsung overtook Apple to become the best-selling smartphone maker this quarter with the Galaxy A series and the latest Galaxy S23 series.

Samsung shipped 60.6 million units in the quarter, up 4% from a month earlier and down 19% from a year earlier. The launch of the Galaxy S23 series has increased Samsung's average selling price to $340.

However, handset shipments from Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo all declined, although Apple had the smallest decline of 2 per cent. The other four manufacturers all showed double-digit declines, with Xiaomi falling 22%, the biggest drop.

Samsung shipped 60.6 million units in the quarter, down 19% from a year earlier.

Apple shipped 58 million units in the quarter, down 2% from a year earlier.

Xiaomi shipped 30.5 million units in the quarter, down 22% from a year earlier.

OPPO shipped 28 million units in the quarter, down 10% from a year earlier.

Vivo shipped 20.8 million units in the quarter, down 18% from a year earlier.
